Questions we get asked

If yours isn’t here, add it to the form and we’ll answer it when we call.

What does it cost?

Privately paid sessions are $150. NDIS sessions and NDIS functional capacity assessments are charged at the NDIS rate. Other assessments range from $1,000 to $3,000 depending on the type, and we'll give you a quote before anything is booked.

Can I claim Medicare or use NDIS funding?

Most of our sessions are with provisional psychologists in supervised training, so Medicare rebates don't apply. That's why privately paid sessions are an affordable $150. NDIS sessions are charged at the NDIS rate, and we'll check what your plan covers before you book.

Where will I be seen?

Your first appointments are in person when we’re in town, usually at the local clinic or health service. Sessions between visits are by video or phone.

Do I need a referral?

Not to get in touch. If you want to use a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan or NDIS funding, we’ll let you know what to bring.

Which towns do you visit?

We currently service Stanthorpe, Tenterfield and Kyogle. If your town needs a psychologist, use the form at the bottom of the page to start the conversation.

What assessments do you do?

ADHD, autism, cognitive and learning assessments for children and adults, plus NDIS functional assessments.

What happens after I send the form?

Someone from our team will call you during business hours to talk through what you need, fees and your options. You only book if it suits you.

Is this a crisis service?

No. If you or someone else is in danger, call 000. Lifeline is available 24/7 on 13 11 14.

How it works

About City to Country

City to Country was started by Nick Chizzoni, an endorsed clinical psychologist and Board-Approved Supervisor with over 10 years' experience in mental health. Originally from the Sunshine Coast, Nick moved to Broken Hill at 23 and later completed his Master of Clinical Psychology. He has worked across rural, remote and regional Australia with the Royal Flying Doctor Service, NSW Health, Queensland Health, headspace and First Nations health services, and delivers outreach services in Mt Garnet, Croydon and Georgetown. He has completed more than 300 neurodevelopmental and functional capacity assessments, and is trained in EMDR, Schema Therapy, ACT, CBT and psychodynamic psychotherapy.

Most of Australia's psychologists work in major cities, so people in rural and remote towns often drive hundreds of kilometres or wait a very long time to be seen. City to Country was set up to bring quality psychologists to the communities that need them. Nick provides the clinical governance and supervision for the team, often travels with them, and reviews and co-signs their work, so you can feel confident in the quality of your care. A company director of the Australian Clinical Psychology Association, Nick has also completed the Australian Institute of Company Directors course, and brings that governance training to how City to Country safeguards its clients and psychologists.

“Quality mental health care shouldn’t depend on your postcode.”

The road to City to Country

I didn't set out to start a practice. I set out to do the work where it was needed most. These are some of the places and people that shaped City to Country.

It started in Broken Hill

I grew up on the Sunshine Coast and moved to Broken Hill at 23. Going rural that early in my career, I saw the rewards of the work and the authenticity and appreciation of rural and remote people. It lit a fire in me to keep providing that care.

Out here, distance is the barrier

Most of Australia's psychologists work in major cities, with far fewer per person in remote and very remote areas. I met families who had driven hundreds of kilometres, or waited a very long time, to see one. Seeing that disparity is where my passion for rural and remote mental health grew. Quality support from properly trained psychologists shouldn't depend on your postcode.

Every child has a story

In Far North Queensland, I was the contracted psychologist at Ngak Min Health in Gordonvale, a First Nations owned and run primary health care service. Over 12 months I assessed 36 First Nations children and young people, identifying neurodevelopmental conditions such as intellectual disability, ADHD and autism, and PTSD or complex PTSD in 11 children. Each assessment led to practical supports, from NDIS recommendations to education plans and school adjustments. The numbers matter, but the heart of an assessment is the child's story. Going the distance

I've run across this country too. Out here you learn that the long way is often the only way, and that showing up, again and again, is what counts.

City to Country is the next leg

After nearly 10 years in rural and remote Australia, including overseeing hybrid models of care, I built City to Country. Our team is mostly provisional psychologists in supervised training, seeing NDIS participants and private clients in person and by telehealth. Medicare rebates don't apply to provisional psychologists, so private sessions are an affordable $150, and NDIS sessions are charged at the NDIS rate. I provide the clinical governance and supervision, often travel with the team, and review and co-sign their work, so you can feel confident in the quality of your care.
